Lok Adalat vs Delhi Evening Court: Traffic Challan Settlement Guide
Lok Adalat vs Delhi Evening Court: Traffic Challan Settlement Guide
A pending Delhi traffic challan can become confusing when you see different options such as Lok Adalat, Evening Court, Virtual Court and Digital Traffic Court. Which route applies to your challan? Do both Lok Adalat and Evening Court offer fine relief? What happens if you cannot get a Lok Adalat token?
Lok Adalat is a scheduled forum for settling eligible cases through mutual agreement. Delhi Special Evening Court is an evening court arrangement for traffic matters accepted under its applicable conditions.
Both may help resolve eligible traffic challans, but their booking processes, schedules and legal procedures differ. Neither guarantees a fixed discount or automatic cancellation of your fine.
This guide explains the differences, the booking process and how Challan Samadhan can assist you.
What Is Delhi Traffic Lok Adalat?
Lok Adalat is a settlement mechanism recognised under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987. Legal services authorities organise Lok Adalats to facilitate amicable settlement of eligible pending cases and pre-litigation matters.
In Delhi, traffic Lok Adalat arrangements involve the legal services authorities and Delhi Traffic Police.
For traffic challans, eligibility depends on the particular event’s official conditions. These may include:
-
Whether the offence is compoundable under law.
-
The applicable challan cut-off date.
-
The challan’s current court or portal status.
-
Categories included or excluded from the event.
-
Availability of booking or challan-slip downloads.
A compoundable offence is one that the law permits to be resolved through compounding under the applicable conditions. Non-compoundable offences cannot be settled in Lok Adalat.
Having a pending challan does not automatically make it eligible for the next Lok Adalat.
What Is Delhi Special Evening Court?
Delhi Special Evening Court provides evening sittings for eligible traffic challans and notices.
Delhi Traffic Police has published a schedule of 5 PM to 7 PM on working days for Special Evening Courts. Your actual appointment remains subject to the current court schedule, holidays, cancellations and available slots.
Unlike an event-specific Lok Adalat booking window, the Evening Court appointment system allows users to explore available dates and slots for eligible records.
Always follow the date, court complex, court number and reporting instructions printed on your appointment slip.
Difference Between Lok Adalat and Delhi Evening Court
| Feature | Delhi Traffic Lok Adalat | Delhi Special Evening Court |
|---|---|---|
| Basic purpose | Amicable settlement of eligible matters | Court disposal of traffic matters accepted under the applicable arrangement |
| Schedule | Officially announced event dates | Evening sittings under the current court schedule |
| Booking | Event-specific booking or slip-download window | Available appointment dates and time slots |
| Eligibility | Compoundable cases meeting the event’s conditions | Records accepted under current portal and court instructions |
| Cut-off | May change for each event | Verify current instructions and available records |
| Timing | As stated in the event notice and appointment slip | Published arrangement is 5–7 PM on working days; verify the booked slot |
| Fine relief | Depends on the lawful settlement | Depends on applicable law and the court’s order |
| Final record | Lok Adalat award after settlement | Court order or disposal record |
| Does booking clear the challan? | No | No |
The appropriate route depends on your challan’s status and eligibility. Do not select a process solely because someone promises a larger discount.
How Does Delhi Lok Adalat Booking Work?
1. Check the latest announcement
Visit the official Delhi Traffic Police and Delhi State Legal Services Authority websites.
Confirm the event date, booking opening time, eligibility conditions and any download limits. Do not rely on an old poster or a previous event’s cut-off date.
2. Search your vehicle details
Open the official Lok Adalat portal and enter the vehicle number and other requested verification details.
Review which challans are available for that event.
3. Complete the available booking process
Follow the current portal instructions to obtain the relevant challan slip or appointment.
Check the selected challans and court details carefully. A booking for one challan should not be treated as a booking for every challan on the vehicle.
4. Attend according to the slip
Save the downloaded slip and follow the reporting instructions.
An online token is an appointment document. The applicable settlement proceedings must still be completed.
5. Keep the final records
Preserve the award or order and any payment receipt. Match the challan numbers against the matters covered by the settlement.
How to Book a Delhi Evening Court Appointment
The published Delhi Traffic Police instructions describe the following process:
-
Open the official Evening Court appointment portal.
-
Select the appropriate court option.
-
Enter the vehicle number and captcha.
-
Search for available challans and notices.
-
Complete the required OTP verification using the vehicle’s registered mobile number.
-
Choose an available date, court complex, court and time slot.
-
Download the appointment slip.
-
Follow the court’s attendance, disposal and payment instructions.
If OTP verification fails, check the vehicle’s registered mobile details through the official vehicle-services process.
Booking assistance does not remove the requirement for official verification.

Which Option Offers a Bigger Challan Discount?
There is no universal percentage that applies to every challan in either Lok Adalat or Evening Court.
Any relief depends on the offence, applicable law, case circumstances and the settlement or court order.
Do not assume that:
-
Every challan will be reduced.
-
All fines will be waived.
-
A token guarantees a particular settlement amount.
-
Every challan on the vehicle will be resolved together.
Also distinguish between the traffic fine, court fees and a private provider’s service charges.
There is no court fee payable for filing a matter in Lok Adalat. This does not mean the traffic fine automatically becomes zero.
What if You Cannot Get a Lok Adalat Token?
You can check whether your challan is available for an Evening Court appointment.
However, missing a Lok Adalat token does not automatically make the challan eligible for Evening Court.
Check:
-
The challan’s current court status.
-
Whether the record is available on the Evening Court portal.
-
Whether an appointment can be booked.
-
Whether any existing proceeding or order affects the next step.
If the challan does not appear on a booking portal, do not assume it has been cancelled or settled.
Does “Sent to Court” Mean Evening Court?
No. “Sent to Court” does not, by itself, identify the correct court process.
Delhi traffic matters may involve Virtual Court, Digital Traffic Court or other proceedings. Delhi District Courts describes a separate Digital Traffic Court process for matters transferred after selecting the option to contest in Virtual Court.
Review the specific court details before booking or paying through another route.
What if You Want to Challenge an Incorrect Challan?
A settlement request and a challenge to an allegation are different decisions.
If the vehicle details, violation image or other material information appears incorrect, check the applicable grievance or contest procedure.
Lok Adalat works through settlement by consent. It should not be presented as a replacement for a contested hearing where you want the allegation examined.
Keep the challan image, relevant vehicle documents and supporting evidence. Seek case-specific advice where necessary before accepting a settlement.
Which Documents Should You Keep Ready?
Follow the requirements in the current notice and your appointment slip.
As a practical checklist, keep these available:
-
Appointment or challan slip.
-
Vehicle registration number and relevant RC details.
-
Challan numbers.
-
Relevant identity documents.
-
Earlier payment receipts or court records.
-
Supporting evidence, if clarification is required.
-
Any authorisation requested for a representative or company-owned vehicle.
This is a preparation checklist. Requirements may differ between matters.
Where Are Delhi Traffic Court Appointments Held?
Published Delhi Traffic Police advisories have listed these seven court complexes:
-
Tis Hazari
-
Karkardooma
-
Patiala House
-
Saket
-
Rohini
-
Dwarka
-
Rouse Avenue
Use your appointment slip to identify the correct complex and court number. Do not assume the nearest court can handle your booking.
What Should You Check After Challan Disposal?
Save the final order or award along with the payment receipt.
Check that the records cover the correct challan numbers. Disposal of one matter does not necessarily clear every challan associated with the vehicle.
If an online status conflicts with your completed proceedings, use the receipt and order to seek clarification from the relevant authority before making another payment.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Evening Court another name for Lok Adalat?
No. They have different scheduling arrangements and legal processes.
Can I book any pending Delhi challan?
Only records accepted under the applicable conditions can be booked. Check the current portal and official notice.
Is online booking the same as online settlement?
No. Follow the appointment instructions to determine the attendance and completion requirements.
Can a vehicle registered outside Delhi use these services?
Check the jurisdiction and eligibility of the particular challan. The vehicle’s registration prefix alone does not decide the applicable route.
Do I need a lawyer?
Attendance and representation requirements should be checked for the specific matter. Legal advice can be useful where the allegation is disputed or existing court proceedings need clarification.
Are Evening Court appointments always available?
No. Availability depends on the schedule, eligible records and open slots. Check the live portal and any cancellation notices.
Can Challan Samadhan guarantee a discount?
The court or competent authority controls the outcome. Our role is to provide assistance and explain the applicable process.
Where can I check upcoming Lok Adalat dates?
Use fresh announcements from Delhi Traffic Police and the Delhi State Legal Services Authority.
